The Ladies Club here, a premier institution is situated at the top of Light House Hill and by the veritable galaxy of its members of the female gender achieved unparalleled name and fame.
Ladies Club was registered in 1920 under the able leadership of a dynamic lady, Lucy Sreshta to cater to the recreational and developmental needs of Ladies Club of Mangaluru. Indeed, Sreshta had a vision for the city.
In the past hundred years, Ladies Club has lived up to its reputation and purpose by giving the very best to society, having stood firm in their belief system and values holding fast to preserve the very existence of the Ladies Club for posterity.
District collectors and visiting dignitaries from all walks of life and corners of the globe praised the spirit of camaraderie, the unique feeling of fellowship, the high standards of entertainment and the good attendance at all the functions and events held at the Ladies Club.
One admirable tradition continues and is significant. The noble idea of helping the less fortunate by distributing love, good cheer and largess.
The hallmark of the club is the Mangalore Ladies Club cookery book, now in its seventh edition having a spectacular variety and uniqueness with practical and simplified methods of achieving anybody‘s cooking goals.

History
2020 marks the centenary year of the Mangalore Ladies club.
A Leading Dynamic Lady of the time , Mrs Lucy Sreshta took on her shoulders to convince the then “British Raj” to donate a space in the light house Hill Area which is a prominent location for the recreational and developmental needs of the ladies of Mangalore.
Under the able leadership of Mrs Lucy all avenues for the ladies from sports, to a cooperative store and the most exceptional library of the time we’re established.
Visitors books have been preserved and the comments of District collectors and visiting dignitaries from all corners of the globe have praised the spirit of fellowship and the high standards of entertainment.
The sporting spirit was evident on the badminton and tennis courts. The sporting trophy is on display in the club now which are over half a century old.
Indo is the ladies play bridge and whist with elan.
There were evenings of relaxation, music and laughter which echoed through the premises.
Though the times have changed from ‘colonial times‘ to the modern age the club has a rich legacy.
Annual dinner dances, May Queen and monsoon balls, The Iconic New Year’s ball.
Memorable Christmas bazaars, fancy fetes,karate and Aerobic classes, children’s holiday camps, art and crafts classes, dramatics,dancing and photography classes have been held over the years
The highlight of the contributions of the Ladies Club members has been the ‘Ladies Club cookery book‘, which is considered as the bible of all cookery books in Mangalore.
Numerous cookery demonstrations have been conducted over the years resulting in a rich legacy of recipes from women from all walks of life.
The cookery competitions ,flower arrangement competitions and exhibitions Have been a great attraction.
The committee members serve as the executive body and organise various monthly activities.
One admirable tradition continues-The noble idea of helping the less fortunate. The members visit the sick, the infirm and the orphaned. Visits to hospitals and home for the aged are a regular feature whereby the members distribute love, good cheer and largess.
The now computerised newsletter keeps members informed of the various programs and activities ongoing in the club.
A manager oversees the date to day affairs and sundry details in running the club. Bookings for this spacious and centrally located club is much sought after for both private and public functions.
